Our Story

We're "Small Town"

SubZero Heating and Air Conditioning began as a part-time HVAC installation operation in 2013. The company is owned by Jack and Trishanda Barhorst who both believe in embracing "small-town" values and respecting the people in those communities is at the heart of what they do. Having grown up in Fort Loramie, Ohio, and ultimately settling in even tinier Pleasant Hill the couple know and greatly appreciate the people in the region.

Jack completed an A.A. degree at Sinclair Community College where he attended on a baseball scholarship. He went on to complete the HVAC certification program at RETS Tech in 2003. After working for several larger HVAC contractors in the Miami Valley, Jack was sure there was a better way to do things. When his last employer decided he wasn't a good fit for his job, Jack began his career.

When they established the company, Trishanda was a stay at home mom to the couple's three sons, Austin, Dexter, and Clay. Her role in SubZero was limited at that time, overseeing the bookkeeping and some communications. She eventually returned to college and graduated from Antioch University with a B.A. in liberal studies with a concentration in creative writing and literature. Her role with the company today involves wearing many hats but she is certain it's what she was preparing for all along.
